Medical Crisis Counseling--This was the first type counseling HtH did. We work with those who have family members who are chronically ill, terminally ill, or disabled. We help make sense out of the situation. We help people navigate the muddy waters of the medical field, insurance, and such. We do not give medical advice, but we do help withthe pain and fears associated with medical issues.
Single Moms--Our hearts were moved to help single parents (mostly moms) who are struggling emotionally but cannot afford to pay for counseling. We did not like hearing the stories of how mothers were being forced to decide if they were going to pay rent, buy food for their children, or get counseling. No one should have to make that type choice, so we opened the doors to provide free counseling to single moms and their children. Many single moms have survived because they were able to get the counseling they needed.
Abused Women--Another group we deal with that do not have money is the group of abused women. Can you imagine an abused lady going to her husband and asking for money to go get emotional help and advice about how to escape from the abuser? That would just lead to more abuse. Many women who come to see us have been in abusive relationships their whole life. Some don’t even know they are being abused. It is appalling the number of women who are not allowed to have friends, go anywhere by themselves, decide how to spend money, etc. and they don’t know that is not a loving relationship. I have women tell me their spouse was just trying to teach them how to be a better wife when they beat up on them. We have helped hundreds of women escape the clutches of abuse. Let me clarify: We are beginning to see more and more abused men than ever before. Spousal abuse does go both ways.
Budgeting--We help all who need help developing and sticking to a budget. No matter how much or how little one has, a budget is vital in being a good steward of what God has entrusted into one’s care. I was trained by Larry Burkett back in the day before the video training. It was hands on with him. I was blessed to get to know him and blessed by all he taught me. Instead of a percentage budget, we tend to develop a budget of necessity with our clients.
Parent/Child Relationship--What parent or what child does not need some guidance at times on how to make that relationship work? We help children and youth understand where their parent(s) come from and we help parents understand how to understand the pressures and concerns of their children.
Emotional Counseling--We do the traditional emotional counseling and help people learn how to live with depression, bi-polar, etc. Our counseling is from a Christian perspective and brings God into the big picture.
Anger Management--Anger is a God-given emotion and like all emotions it is neutral. Anger is not the problem. The way people deal with anger can become a major problem. We help people learn how to properly express anger. We help them learn that anger releases energy and how to take that energy and attack problems. We teach problem defining skills and problem solving skills. When anger is directed against a problem, problems can be solved. When anger is directed against people, someone is always hurt. We teach how to attack problems not people.
Addictive Behaviors--We deal with addiction from a “let’s get to the root problem” perspective. If we can get to the root of the problem and solve it, then the addiction can be healed. If we just treat the symptom, then the addiction will continue.
Sexual Issues--We deal with gender identity issues, sexual misunderstandings, sexual dysfunction, etc from the perspective that God created sex for good and for pleasure so Satan has counterfeited it and has tried to make it evil. We help people see from the Bible the proper role of sex in life.
Support Groups--We have many different types of support groups that we offer as the need arises. We have a L.I.F.E. group. L.I.F.E. is Living in Freedom Everyday and is a support group for men who struggle with sexual addiction. We have In the Wildflowers which is a support group for women who have been molested. We have spousal abuse support groups for women who have suffered from spousal abuse. We have many other groups including parenting groups that we offer from time to time.
Spiritual Discipleship--In reality, counseling is spiritual discipleship. Counseling helps people learn how to live according to the Word of God. We not only see the above types of counseling from a Christian discipleship angle, we do specific spiritual counseling in which we help others grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Preaching--Daniel is always ready to preach or teach anywhere he is invited.
Bible Study--At various times we have group Bible study. We also do Bible studies via the internet through email. If you have a Bible question or would like to study the Bible, just contact us and we will be glad to help. Shelia leads a Ladies’ Bible Study on the first and third Tuesday evenings at 6:30. If you would like to join them, call Shelia and let her know. There are times they meet at somewhere besides the office. 706-264-3248
Marriage Counseling--HtH has a division dedicated to feeding marriages. This is not just for marriages that are struggling but it is also for good marriages to help keep them growing. Our philosophy is the day you stop working on your marriage is the day you start working on your divorce. No marriage will survive by coasting. The division that works with marriages is called Marriage Boosters™. Marriage Boosters™ helps marriages through marriage enrichment seminars, marriage counseling, marriage life coaching, marriage mentoring, and marriage retreats. If your church or organization would like to sponsor a weekend marriage
enrichment seminar, please let us know. You can use the ministry’s email or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Medical Needs--Dr. Wiley Smith, a family doctor, comes to our office to see our clients who do not have medical insurance every two weeks. He has worked as a medical missionary all over the world. We also help our clients obtain patient assistance to receive their medications for free if they qualify.
This is a good overview of most of the services we offer. I hope this has enlightened you to the many facets of HtH. Remember, we don’t charge for any of these services. If you can, a donation would help us be able to continue to help those with needs.
